Nvidia’s DLSS image reconstruction technology is getting a massive improvement yet again with DLSS 3.5. After the company’s recent frame generation update was only available for RTX 40-series cards, DLSS 3.5 is available for all RTX GPUs.

Revealed during a Gamescom demonstration, Nvidia’s DLSS 3.5 targets fully path-traced games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC expansion Phantom Liberty. The technology will also be a huge feature included with the recently announced Half-Life 2 RTX remake.

Designed to increase speed in path traced titles, DLSS 3.5’s ray reconstruction aims to improve the realism of ray-traced lighting, shadows, reflections, global illumination and more without taxing the GPU. Done in a very similar way to its standard image reconstruction, the technology will cut down the performance impact of running fully path-traced rendering in real-time.

While the technology will certainly help with path traced games, it will also benefit any form of raytracing on Nvidia GPUs. While every ray-traced image needs to be run through a denoising process, DLSS 3.5’s ray reconstruction provides even cleaner ray-traced images at a fraction of the processing cost. As Nvidia is replacing multiple denoising processes with just one reconstruction method, performance can see great boosts.

Here’s a video explaining the technology below:

Nvidia has already partnered with several upcoming games to bring DLSS 3.5 to PC gamers. Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2, Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Fortnite, Cyberpunk 2077 and Payday 3 will all support the technology when they launch.

DLSS 3.5 won’t just be available for gaming either. In fact, Nvidia has brought the technology to 3D editing apps like Chaos Vantage, D5 Render, as well as its own Nvidia Omniverse to provide accurate render previews without a huge performance cost.

DLSS 3.5 is coming to multiple titles later this year.
