Live Action Batman Beyond movie reportedly set in a Blade Runner dystopia

Warner Bros is reportedly working on a movie based on the futuristic Batman Beyond series. Allegedly inspired by the world of Blade Runner and its sequel, the movie will be set in a dystopian Gotham.

Reported by We Got This Covered, the story is backed up by sources that claimed Ben Affleck would return to the DCEU. With Affleck confirmed to be returning in Warner Bros’ The Flash movie, the report does seem more likely.

What is WB's Batman Beyond movie?

WGTC reports that the upcoming Batman Beyond movie will be set up in next year's The Flash. With Barry Allen's multiverse adventure planning on introducing DCEU fans to other versions of the established Justice League cast, one in particular will set up this new Batman adventure.

Original Batman Michael Keaton is set to wear the cowl once again in Flash's new film as an experienced Caped Crusader. However, once all is said and done, the actor will remain in the role as an older Bruce Wayne. This older incarnation will go onto train Terry McGinnis, the successor to Wayne's Batman.

Keaton's older Wayne will provide McGinnis with an arsenal of futuristic gadgets. As the seedy crime noir setting of Gotham moves into the future, the setting will become more Blade Runner than Sin City.

Who will direct the new Batman movie?

Warner Bros is currently eyeing up a seasoned director of the futuristic dystopia genre. Denis Villeneuve, director of Blade Runner 2049 and Dune, is the top choice for the project at WB.

Villeneuve’s experience in the genre and spectacular track record makes him a fantastic choice for the project. Blade Runner 2049 was a critical masterpiece despite its box office disappointment. However, a key IP like Batman should circumvent that problem easily.

The only other key player is who will play the role of Terry McGinnis. Many signs point to Timothy Chalamet, an actor who's also in Villeneuve’s Dune movies. Much like Robert Pattinson in The Batman, Chalamet isn't a conventional choice, but his acting prowess would make for an intriguing Batman Beyond.
