Despite Baldur's Gate 3 releasing in August last year and becoming a viral mega-hit, even with the fact that the game resides in a niche genre, Larian Studios is setting its sights even larger in scope, promising a game that is so gargantuan, it "dwarfs" Baldur's Gate 3.
Recently, Larian Studios confirmed they won't be working on the Baldur's Gate series any more, but considering the popularity and review scores for Baldur's Gate 3, it seems like a fitting swan song for Larian's journey with the franchise. But it's not the end of the developer, and it seems like things could only get better. Somehow.
Speaking to GameSpot at GDC, Larian Studios' CEO, Swen Vincke, is already planning future titles for the developer, including a "the very big RPG that will dwarf them all". Vincke confirmed to GameSpot that Larian's next game won't be this massive RPG that Baldur's Gate 3 will pale in comparison too, but it will be a good stepping stone.
Vincke confirmed this by adding that "I think there is some tech that we don't have yet, and I don't know what the specs are on the next gen [of gaming systems] yet, but I hope that it's going to bring us closer". At least Larian is giving you some time to save up for the best graphics cards, as well as the best AMD CPUs or best Intel CPUs before releasing this huge RPG.
Considering the fact that Baldur's Gate 3 has made Larian Studios' goal posts a lot bigger, there's a lot of pressure that the company will deliver something equal, or even better than 2023's Game of the Year. With that, don't expect Larian's big RPG, or even the next title in development, any time soon.
However, if you're anything like us, that gives you plenty of time to jump back into Baldur's Gate 3 and finish it before you force yourself to restart with a new character. Or, better yet, play through the incredible story once again with a different approach entirely. If you've got hundreds of hours to spare, of course.
