An AI-powered continuation of popular 90s sitcom Seinfeld broke the internet earlier this month, bringing in thousands of concurrent viewers. In its wake, original Seinfeld and Bee Movie creator Jerry Seinfeld has addressed concerns regarding the AI show.

In a video shared on TikTok, Seinfeld discussed the popular internet series at a recent stand up show. To a crowd of hundreds, the 90s television star explained that the AI is impressive but won’t be replacing him anytime soon.

Seinfeld discussed the AI series with his fans on stage. While the comedian was aware of the situation streaming on Twitch, he wasn’t aware that the series had the potential to go on infinitely. Well, at least before it was taken off the live-streaming platform for hate speech.

“Well, that’s great,” Seinfeld said on stage. “Because 180 episodes is not nearly enough. Let’s make it 180 MILLION!”

Jerry Seinfeld continued to explain that, while impressive, the generations released by the Seinfeld AI were just “AI crap”. With most events in the generative series not making any sense, there’s no real jokes with proper setup and punchlines. A lot of it is just gobbledygook.

“So do new things happen? Oh wow. Do they make any sense? No, it’s AI crap,” the comedian said. “I’m not worried about AI… they’ll make it smarter and smarter, but to do this? You have to make it dumber.”

AI generation has worried a number of people across a multitude of mediums. Artists have started class action lawsuits against AI services such as Midjourney for plagiarising work. Furthermore, writers are worried that ChatGPT will automate swathes of online content. But can AI ever come for movie stars?

We’ve already seen artificial intelligence used to create virtual celebrities such as AI VTubers. Furthermore, AI rappers and other artists have also been created. However, we have yet to see an AI movie star infiltrate Hollywood. What if an AI actor was in the next Avengers? We don’t see that happening anytime soon.
