Amazon founder Jeff Bezos wants humanity to move into the stars. That's the primary purpose of the billionaire's space company Blue Origin. However, while the vast majority of humanity is ripped away from Mother Earth, our birth planet will be converted in a tourist attraction for the rich.
Jeff Bezos wants the entire Earth to be a tourist trap
Speaking at the 2021 Ignatius Forum, Jeff Bezos explained his view of what the future should be. Instead of humanity living and thriving on Earth, Bezos wants our planet to be all-but-abandoned. In the absence of billions, Earth could then be turned into a National Park.
But what of humanity? Instead of being born on land, Bezos wants most humans to be born in space. Most people will be born in space colonies, live in space colonies and die in space colonies. Those lucky enough to afford a trip will be able to see Earth.
“Over the centuries, most or many of the people will be born in space. It will be their first home. They will be born on these colonies, they will live on these colonies. They may visit Earth the way you would visit Yellowstone National Park.”
The solar system is bigger
To make Bezos’ dream of twisting Earth into a rich man's tourist trap would mean protecting Earth. Bezos’ Amazon has been at the centre of a horrendous waste scheme, but to actually protect Earth that would have to change. After years of waste on Earth, Bezos now wants to “preserve it and conserve it.”
Additionally, the Amazon founder wants to take humanity to the stars to expand population. By terraforming other planets such at Mars, we can take gunsmith from “10 billion to 20 billion people.” Finally, by spreading further into the cosmos, we can “support a trillion people, and we can continue to grow our civilization and grow our energy intensity.”
