James Gunn teases important Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 character deaths

James Gunn has teased some pretty major plot points for the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the recently released The Suicide Squad, but also dropped some hints about what fans can expect to see in the next Guardians movie.

While he didn’t admit who he was going to kill off, it seems that Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 will carry on the series’ tradition of killing off at least one character. In Vol. 1 we saw Groot die, in Vol. 2 Yondu was killed and Gamora died during the events of Avengers: Infinity War before returning as someone else and disappearing.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

While James Gunn primarily spoke about The Suicide Squad while talking to Entertainment Tonight, he dropped some Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 information, while also contrasting the two different films.

"Guardians of the Galaxy has a family film element to it, so I'm telling that story to a lot of different people. When Rocket says to Drax, 'I'm gonna shoot you in the face and kill you,' we don't as an audience think in two seconds he's going to pull out his gun and we're going to see Drax’s face disappear.”

“In Guardians, yes, obviously I killed Yondu, I killed the big original Groot, but it isn't the same thing. We know most of them are going to make it out alive. At least for two movies," added Gunn. While he didn’t mention any real details about who it’s going to be, for obvious reasons, we’re pretty confident we know who it might be based on a few reasons.

It’s Drax, because of course it is

Look, we don’t know for sure, but it’s probably going to be Drax. Firstly, Dave Bautista has already said that this is likely his last film. He’s previously gone into detail about how little he enjoys playing the character, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ends up dying at the end of the trilogy.

Even looking at the logo for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, we can see a hint that Drax might be the character to go. Vol. 1’s logo had the same colour as Groot, who died at the end. Vol. 2’s logo had a blue colour in it, and Yondu, who was entirely blue, died at the end of that film. Vol. 3 has a colour similar to Drax’s, so James Gunn might be dropping the biggest hint of all right in front of us all.

Still, we’re quite some way from Vol. 3. Shooting doesn’t start until next year, and the film is scheduled for a May 5, 2023 release date.
