Although the idea of the Metaverse hasn't fared well, many companies are still exploring it. Roblox's game design functionality and endless possibilities make it an ideal foundation for Metaverse experiments, and IKEA obviously sees the potential.

Unlike Zuckerberg, who lost billions on the Metaverse while using the best VR headsets, Roblox is more accessible. It hosts thousands of user-created games within its catalog and is available on a wide range of devices and consoles, making it a prime target for companies betting on the Metaverse.

Following Walmart's initiative to sell items in Roblox, which started in April this year, IKEA is launching its own Roblox store. However, this isn't a typical store where you can place orders; it's a trial to attract people to careers within IKEA.

To support this initiative, IKEA is hiring fully virtual remote workers for its Roblox experience, called "The Co-Worker Game." Eligible Roblox players working for IKEA during The Co-Worker Game's duration will explore various career paths within IKEA, as the company tries to entice gamers to apply for real-world jobs at IKEA.

UK and Ireland residents (sorry, US citizens) will earn £13.15 per hour (approximately $16 per hour) for their time. Interviews begin on June 14, 2024, ahead of the store's opening on June 24, 2024. You can apply for the role on The Co-Worker Game website, but the interview questions are quite unique. One question asks, "If you were pixelated IKEA furniture, which one would you be and why?"

There are only 10 roles available, and the experience is a limited contract. So, if you've ever dreamed of working for IKEA, but only in Roblox, your chances are slim. You have until June 16 to fine-tune your CV and perfect your Roblox avatar.

In other Roblox news, Discord competitor Guilded is requiring users to connect Roblox accounts, prompting many to either create a Roblox account or leave the service.
