What is Error Code 43 in Valorant?

The imaginatively titled Error Code 43 seems to be afflicting players when they are attempting to connect to the servers. It seems especially common when a patch has recently been downloaded.

This specific error is caused by a system time out, which usually happens when Riot Games are performing server maintenance, or there is some other server related issue.

With the problem seemingly being on their side, this does limit the fixes that are available. But there are a few things you can try.

How to fix Error Code 43 in Valorant

The first thing to do is check the server status of the game, which you can do here.

If the servers are down, then it is, unfortunately, sometimes just a matter of sitting tight and waiting until they are back up and running. But if the servers are working, Riot Games have recommended that users restart the game client.

So effectively, 'try turning it off and on again'. This will work often enough to be worth a try. In the event this doesn't work, here are some other suggestions.

Other possible fixes

Here are some other fixes for Error Code 42.

  • As well as restarting the game, restarting your entire computer is also worth a go. This will reset all your connections, so if there was a bad connection with the client, this can resolve it.
  • Make sure your internet connection is working properly. This seems very obvious, but again, it's worth making sure you aren't experiencing a drop in signal. It's also worth ensuring you don't have lots of devices competing for bandwidth, if you can.
  • One possible fix is to avoid multi-tasking, and close down other tabs. Apparently if you press 'alt-tab' to switch between tabs while the game is loading, this can cause the client to crash, and present you with error code 43.
  • A final possible fix, is to delete the Riot Vanguard from your PC. This is the game client, and it will be reinstalled when you try to relaunch the game. Again, some users have found this to be effective.

There you have it. A few ways that you might be able to fix Error Code 43, and get back to playing Valorant. As we said before, it is most typically a server issue at Riot's end, but if you don't want to wait, then give these a try, and see how you get on.
