Move over, science fiction, reality is here! As explicit robots and hover bikes start to enter the mainstream tech sphere, many are still hoping for the flying car future. As it turns out, that future is very nearly upon us.
Slovakian developers KleinVision have created the most successful flying car to date. Just like Back to the Future, the company’s impressive “Aircar” is a convertible vehicle ready for both the land and skies.
Flying Car certified for flight in monumental acceptance
KleinVision's Aircar is designed to “change mid-distance travel forever”. Powered by a 1.6-litre BMW engine, the vehicle can transform from a road car to a flying car in less than three minutes. This means that the vehicle can reverse across traditional roads and the skies with ease.
In its current form, Aircar can reach air speeds of around 118mph. Additionally, the vehicle can reach altitudes above 8000ft. The company is also working on an enhanced model that will reach a top speed of 168mph across 621 miles.
After over 200 take-off and landing tests across 70 hours of test time, KleinVision's Aircar had finally been accepted as a safe mode of travel. The European Aviation Safety Agency has certified the vehicle for flight.
After months of testing, the EASA expressed wonderment at the quality of the product. Despite its convertible nature, the vehicle was applauded for its “astonishing static and dynamic stability in the aircraft mode”.

Mass Production lies ahead
Aircar creator Steven Klein has explained that mass production is next on the checklist for KleinVision. With the flying car completing certification, the car will be usable for anyone with a pilot’s license.
“Aircar certification opens the door for mass production of very efficient flying cars," Klein confirmed. “It's official and the final confirmation of our ability to change mid-distance travel forever."
Co-founder Anton Zajac continued the thought, stating: “Fifty years ago, the car was the epitome of freedom. Aircar expands those frontiers by taking us into the next dimension, where road meets sky.”

It’s yet to be seen just how many people are interested in buying flying cars. However, even if the technology is only bought by a select few, it’s still impressive that we’ve finally realised the sci-fi technology in real life.
