It looks like Blumhouse’s upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s movie will adapting one of the franchise’s most recent entry: Security Breach. In a surprise move, the movie studio has cast an actor in the role of Vanessa from the franchise’s most recent entry.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting more details on the live-action video game adaptation, but we haven’t had much official news since its announcement in 2015. Blumhouse has claimed that filming will start in February 2023, hopefully giving fans the movie they want sometime soon.

Now that The Last of Us and Castlevania have set the bar high for video game adaptations, there’s additional pressure on Five Nights at Freddy’s. Granted, the games aren’t exactly high art, but fans have latched on to the worldbuilding and we’re interested in seeing that implemented in a movie.

According to Geek Vibes Nation, Elizabeth Lail from Netflix’s You will be playing Vanessa in the Blumhouse Production movie. Other actors announced for the movie include Scooby Doo and Twin Peaks actor Matthew Lillard as well as Josh Hutchinson.

Vanessa was one of the antagonists in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, who is more of an annoyance than a major threat. However, she disappears from the game and is replaced by Vanny later on. There’s a lot of speculation that Vanny is an alter-ego of Vanessa and that could be expanded on in the movie.

It will be interesting to see how Blumhouse adapts the games into a movie, though it wouldn’t be too hard to imagine. Considering how these titles rely on jump scares to get reactions from players, that should easily be replicated on film. Hell, maybe they should release it in 3D for extra scares.
