Breakdown

  • Red Dead Redemption Reimagined is a new fan-made mod that overhauls some visuals of the 2010 game
  • The mod is inspired by the 2019 sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, and updates graphics to try and reflect it
  • Unfortunately, the mod only works via the RPCS3, Yuzu, or Ryujinx emulators. Xenia doesn't work

Despite the success of the Red Dead series, Rockstar has never released Red Dead Redemption on PC. Even worse, the recent "remaster" for PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch was merely a port, with the PS5 version getting 60 FPS as an added bonus. Many fans are disappointed and have decided to take matters into their own hands.

If you've been using the best iPhone emulators or the best Android emulators recently and enjoying the best phone controllers instead of emulating on your PC, you may need to return to your desk. This remaster mod requires a PC emulator.

Released just a few days ago, the Red Dead Redemption Reimagined mod lets players revisit the Wild West of Rockstar's 2010 game with visual upgrades inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2. To use the mod, you'll need the RPCS3, Yuzu (R.I.P Yuzu), or Ryujinx emulators for the PS3 and Switch versions, respectively.

Since the game never received a PC version, unlike the 2018 sequel, the mod requires an emulated version of the game to work. As the description states, the mod requires 'depth buffer access,' which means you can't use the Xbox 360 emulator, Xenia.

By installing Red Dead Redemption Reimagined, you'll get a wide range of visual overhauls, such as improved global illumination, reflections, ambient occlusion, and a Cinematic Mode toggle that gives cutscenes a letterbox-style vibe.

Installing it requires quite a few files and tutorials, but Red Dead Redemption Reimagined is a great way to return to the iconic game. It gives both old and new players the chance to play Rockstar Games' classic, especially if you've only played Red Dead 2.

The mod is currently available only on GameBanana. However, the developer has confirmed on Twitter that the Nexus Mods version of RDRI is awaiting approval. If you're tired of waiting for Rockstar to develop a remastered version of the Western, this mod may be the best option.
