After plenty of speculation and fan demand, Final Fantasy 16 is officially getting paid DLC expansions soon. This was part of a double announcement, which revealed that the JRPG is coming to PC as well.

Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida confirmed on Twitter that the controversial JRPG will be getting two paid DLCs soon, though didn’t detail them. Square Enix will also be releasing a free update to the game that adds costumes for Clive, Jill, and best boy Torgal.

"I hope to be able to give you more information on both the upcoming DLC and the PC version before the end of the year, so please stay tuned," said Yoshida.

Based on Yoshida’s wording, it seems that the paid Final Fantasy 16 DLC won’t be coming out this year. Ditto for the PC version, which will need some extensive effort to run well on computers since it was designed as a PS5 exclusive.

While details on the DLC are slim, Yoshida previously stated that he wanted to focus on Cid should additional content get the green light. Considering how much of an impact Cid made, we wouldn’t be too surprised if they made a prologue expansion focusing on his previous ventures.

There are two DLC expansions coming, so one of them could be about Cid and another could focus on a different character. Joshua could end up being the focus of the second DLC since a lot of his story takes place offscreen. Either way, there are a lot of characters Square Enix can focus on.

It’s not yet clear how much of a success Final Fantasy 16 is, due to how vague Square Enix has been. While Square did talk up its three million sales on PS5, the JRPG’s poor showing in Japan has many second-guessing. At the least, its mostly positive reception has now led to DLC.
