Final Fantasy 16 has been a huge success in terms of critical reviews, fan perception, and worldwide sales. This has led to discussions about the game possibly getting DLC to continue riding the wave of that success.

In an interview with Gamer Braves, producer Naoki Yoshida has confirmed that DLC for the RPG is now an option. Yoshida says that this is due to fan demand, as players now want to know more about this world.

“But now we understand we're getting feedback from players that have played the game, and lots of players want to see more, and we know that and understand that,” Yoshida says. “For us, we're taking that and then thinking about our options moving forward.”

Prior to this, Yoshida and the rest of the team made it a mission statement to release Final Fantasy 16 as a complete experience. The goal was to release a finished product with no need for DLC to expand on this game’s story. Now that fans are enjoying the game and want more story, DLC is now an option.

This seems to be something of a response to the poor state Final Fantasy 15 was in when it first released. Many criticized how much of the story felt cut in the main game, with portions of that getting turned into paid DLC. What makes this sadder is that key people from the team left before all of that story could be complete, so 15’s story will never be truly complete.

As it stands, Final Fantasy 16 is a huge improvement on the story side, with fans and critics praising it. Many are also enjoying the Marvel vs Capcom-inspired combat that mixes Devil May Cry with assist-based combos. While this style of game didn’t appeal to Japanese players, others around the world gravitated towards it.
