Ewan McGregor is more excited for Obi-Wan Kenobi than he was for the Prequels

It’s been 19 years since we last saw Ewan McGregor in the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Last seen in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the actor’s portrayal of the Jedi Knight has become iconic, perhaps more so than that of Alec Guinness.

With Ewan McGregor returning to a galaxy far, far away in his solo Disney+ show, the actor is excited to pick up the laser-sword again. In fact, the actor is possibly more excited than when he first played the character 22 years ago.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ewan McGregor expressed his excitement at returning to Star Wars. The actor explains that, originally, it was hard to star in the now-beloved Star Wars prequels.

“[It] was hard they didn't get well received,” the actor explained. “That was quite difficult. They were universally not very much liked."

Nowadays, the actor is incredibly excited to return to the role of Obi-Wan. Perhaps inspired by the fan reception of the character years after the trilogy ended, the actor believes he could be more excited than he was for the prequels.

“I'm really excited about it," McGregor said with glee. "Maybe more so than the first ones, because I'm older — I just turned 50 — and I'm just in a much better place."

At the time of writing, McGregor is going through intensive lightsaber training for the upcoming series. Much like with the prequels, McGregor is training hard for physical lightsaber fights – great news for fans! However, McGregor also revealed that he's working on hand-to-hand combat scenes, too.

"For months, we've been doing these monster, two-and-a-half-hour sessions of sword fights and hand-to-hand stuff," the actor said.

Who else is returning?

McGregor isn't the only prequel trilogy actor returning for the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. In fact, Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen will also be returning to his role. Much like McGregor, Christensen has expressed excitement at finally returning to Star Wars.
