Evil Doctor Strange will reportedly return in this Phase 4 movie

As we continue through Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have our first clues of what's coming next for Doctor Strange. With Multiverse of Madness finally releasing next year, we'll soon see the Marvel magician at full strength. A lot has happened since his 2016 debut, and Strange’s powers have increased tenfold.

From mastering the Time Stone to his upcoming appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, there have been a lot of upgrades for Doctor Strange. But all of that got turned on its head with the latest episode of What if…?

But What If?

For the uninitiated, What If…? is Marvel’s Animated series where we’re walked through alternative events from the Marvel Universe. Episode 4 of What If…? was about Doctor Strange and his evil counterpart the Sorcerer Supreme. In this alternative timeline, Strange doesn’t lose the function of his hands but instead loses the love of his life.

After making the same pilgrimage to Kamar-Ja seeking out the Ancient One as he does in our timeline, they crown Strange the Sorcerer Supreme after defeating Dread Dormammu. In this universe, Strange becomes fixated on power to revive his dead girlfriend, no matter the cost.

The appearance of the Sorcerer Supreme isn’t just sheer speculation either! Semi-reliable leaker “DanielRPK” has confirmed the appearance of the Sorcerer Supreme through his Patreon.

Will Evil Doctor Strange return?

Right now, we don’t know for sure. As it stands right now, Doctor Strange in the MCU timeline is not crowned Sorcerer Supreme. As Strange describes himself as still only knowing the level of a novice with all things time-related, it’s possible that What If’s more powerful Sorcerer Supreme could make an appearance.

We should take rumours with a pinch of salt. However, as What If...? is part of MCU canon, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the evil Sorcerer Supreme pop up in live action. We should find out for sure when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Madness releases in cinemas on March 25th, 2022.
