EA has canceled a new single-player game developed by Respawn set in the Titanfall/Apex Legends universe. This is coming off the heels of EA and Respawn canceling Apex Legends Mobile, despite being enjoyed by gamers.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the game was codenamed Titanfall Legends, or TFL for short. Not much else is known about the title aside from the fact that it would have been a single-player adventure. It’s not known if this would become Titanfall 3 or something else entirely but the potential is now lost.
Veteran game developer Mohammad Alavi was working on this project, prior to his departure in 2022. Alavi has worked on a number of acclaimed games, including the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Titanfall 2, just to name a few.
Currently, EA is trying to find jobs for the 50 developers who were working on this canceled video game. Unfortunately, those that won’t be able to find spots will be fired, which is very unfortunate. EA has declined to comment on these matters.
Fans have been wanting a new game in the Titanfall universe for the longest time, especially after Titanfall 2 took them by surprise. While the multiplayer was good, it was the single-player adventure that stole the show for many, hence the hope for a sequel. Sadly, it looks like fans will have to wait even longer for a new game now.
Respawn hasn’t had the best start to 2023, canceling Apex Legends Mobile and delaying Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. While the latter will lead to a better game down the line, it is sad to see the Titanfall/Apex Legends universe struggle like this. Considering how popular Apex Legends continues to be, this is a confusing cancelation.
Apex Legends is a Free-to-Play shooter and is readily available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
