Dark Souls is already one of the hardest games you can play but will it also be the hardest anime? According to a recent rumour, the acclaimed FromSoftware title will be getting the Netflix anime treatment soon.
Giant Freakin Robot claims that we’re going to get an anime series based on the games, though nothing else has been revealed. It’s speculated that the anime will tackle the first game’s story revolving around finding the first flame.
Netflix has proven to be a good home for video game adaptations with Castlevania becoming a household name thanks to the anime. If Dark Souls gets a similar treatment to Castlevania, fans will be very happy with this potentially gothic and gory adaptation.
Admittedly, not all of Netflix’s adaptations have been for the better. The live-action Resident Evil series was a mess and got canceled after one season. Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma also had an anime adaptation on the platform and fans either forgot about it or didn’t like it.
While not strictly a video game adaptation, Netflix’s handling of The Witcher has also drawn the ire of fans. The adaptation of the Polish fantasy series even irked main star Henry Cavill, who is leaving his role and will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.
Then again, we seem to be in a better age for video game adaptations. Illumination’s Super Mario Bros. movie made a billion dollars and had plenty of fanservice. Peacock’s Twisted Metal series is also getting positive reviews from critics.
No release date for the Dark Souls anime has been revealed. In the meantime, fans can get the game on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
