Fans are asking CD Projekt RED to include characters from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion due to their popularity. Obviously, that can’t happen due to very spoiler-based reasons but fans are still excited for the incredible anime.

With the expansion essentially rebooting the game and getting rid of everything fans hated, fans are hoping this leads to an Edgerunners tie-in. The fact that it will now have a Cyberware system that will warn players of going psycho (via IGN) only brings back memories of what happened to David.

CD Projekt Red previously released some Edgerunners DLC to ride on the anime’s coattails. This included some cosmetic DLC and a brief mission that referenced the video David watched in the show’s first episode. Matt Mercer’s character also calls the character and tells them about David, while the game’s bar also has a drink named after him.

Honestly, while the appreciation fans have for the show is great, it won’t really do much for Cyberpunk 2077. Everyone’s story in the anime has finished, albeit in a tragic way, but finished nonetheless. You could argue that Lucy can make an appearance but that won’t add anything to the game’s story.

Still, the fact that CD Projekt RES added references of the anime into the game is pretty slick. The anime told a simple but great story that’s resonating with fans to this day, hence, all this demand to bring back characters. We still don’t think fans should get their hopes up but a neat reference or two would be fun.

Overall, the future of Cyberpunk 2077 is looking great, especially with all the major changes coming with Phantom Liberty. With a sequel likely in the works and new Witcher games being made, CD Projekt Red is in a really good place right now. The Phantom Liberty expansion will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series, and PC on September 26.
