The upcoming Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC will not include characters from the acclaimed Edgerunners anime, despite massive fan demand. While fans got know these characters well through the Netflix series, they were also hoping for more interactions with them in the game itself.

This comes off a leak that was proven to be false, with CD Projekt Red speaking up on its validity. Prior to that, the leak claimed that the Phantom Liberty expansion would have had a side quest with Edgerunners character Falco. Gamers got to interact with him briefly through free promotional DLC but nothing more came from that.

Falco’s appearance in the free DLC probably got fans hoping that he would actually appear in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. His voice actor, Matt Mercer, appears in video games all the time and having him return to this franchise would have been fun. While it looks like there are no plans to revisit Edgerunners, here’s hoping that they change their minds.

Plus, in case this wasn’t clear, Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners was a fantastic anime that managed to tell a gripping story in 10 short episodes. No kidding about “short” either, as each episode is only about 20 minutes. The acclaim this show has received is well earned, so it’s no wonder that people want to spend more time with these characters.

Admittedly, if anyone can make a gripping story without relying on existing characters, it’s CD Projekt Red. Sure, Cyberpunk and The Witcher are adaptations of existing media, but they didn’t become huge until the video game adaptations came. Both games have been praised for their stories, even when Cyberpunk was extremely buggy, so this works out for everyone.
