The Polish studio People can Fly have just concluded, on June 13, an agreement with Microsoft to work on a AAA Xbox exclusive title. While the title has yet to be revealed, we have some details on the budget, which is going to be between 30 and 50 million dollars. Place your bets, folks.

Named Project Maverick, the agreement on the game has been revealed on a post on the Polish site Interia Biznes. While we don't have any other details about the project, we can definitely hazard a few guesses on which franchise People can Fly might be working on. Could it really be Gears of War?

The last time the Polish studio worked on a Gears of War title was all the way back in 2013, ten years ago at this point. Judgement, a prequel to the events in the original GoW, was an Xbox 360 exclusive. While it received overall fair reviews from critics and fans, it was not entirely successful in reigniting excitement for the series. Gears of War 3 would, then, switch developers to The Coalition.

Since then, People Can Fly have been working on other franchises such as Fortnite and, recently, have released the Square-Enix published co-op RPG Outriders. But we know the Polish studio bread and butter has often been shooting, since their first success was the horror FPS Painkiller, published in 2004.

Naturally, Gears of War is not the only franchise on which People Can Fly might be working on. Fans have reacted to the news by wishing for a "new Sudeki title" or even "Shadowrun". Others seem to be indicating the budget for a new Gears of War game might be too low and it could, more probably, be something else, like a Halo RPG.

It is to be noted, though, that while 50 million dollars might be a low budget for several countries, in Poland salaries are overall a bit lower than other European countries, such as France or Italy.

Whatever the IP they are working on might be, we will be here waiting for some more exciting news on "Project Maverick".
