Borat’s Sacha Baron Cohen is actually Mephisto claims new leak

Borat actor Sacha Baron Cohen is reportedly joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Last week, we reported on rumours that claimed he was the new face of Dormammu. However, new leaks claim that the actor plays a much more exciting threat: Mephisto.

Ever since 2020’s WandaVision, MCU fans have clamoured for Marvel’s devil to make his debut. (We’re not talking about Daredevil!) But is Cohen a good fit for the character?

Is Sacha Baron Cohen playing Mephisto?

Leaked online by Geek Vibes, Borat actor Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing Mephisto in Ironheart. Continuing the series’ Tech vs Magic theme, Mephisto’s appearance will be a brief-but-sweet moment in the Disney Plus show.

According to leaker MyTimeToShineHello, the character’s debut is not a huge moment. Instead, Mephisto only appears to bestow powers to the show’s main villain: The Hood.

In the comics, The Hood gains powers from Dormammu, the villain of Doctor Strange (2016). However, Marvel has reportedly altered this in order to introduce Mephisto into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This explains prior confusion regarding Sacha Baron Cohen’s role. Fans expected the character to play Dormammu in order to stay comic accurate, even if that meant recasting a character. However, that’s not the case.

“The Hood is the villain of the show,” said the leaker.”He's magic based character that makes a deal with a demon to get his cloak and powers. Originally it was with Dormammu in the comics but here it's gonna be with Mephisto.”

This is a long term role

If these leaks are to be believed, the role of Mephisto is a big deal for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While a debut appearance in a Disney Plus show may upset some people, this won’t be the last time we see the character.

In response to the discourse, leaker MyTimeToShineHello claimed that the character is “Long-term for sure. Just a taste here.” This means that we should expect to see the character again… maybe Doctor Strange 3?

Whatever the case, Mephisto is one of the most-hyped inclusions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hopefully, this version of the character will be everything fans wanted. After all, Cohen is a fantastic character actor.
