Baldur’s Gate 3 has managed to impress fans with the amount of horniness and romance surrounding the RPG. However, it seems that the devs failed to think about players who play as gnomes since the smaller character race can’t kiss anyone.
Twitter user Young Elmo brought the topic up by showing what happens when a gnome character romances someone taller than them. Unfortunately, no kissing is shown, as the RPG has no kissing animations for players who create smaller characters.
“My gnome can’t even kiss my love because he’s too short,” Young Elmo said. “This is the kissing animation. This is NOT Short King Summer.”
Young Elmo did tell Kotaku that their Baldur’s Gate 3 character was able to kiss Shadowheart later on. Hilariously, the player ended that romantic venture when meeting the Tiefling Karlach, who he was able to score with.
Considering the popularity of dwarves and gnomes in Dungeons & Dragons, not giving them kissing options is pretty shocking. While we’re sure these characters can still get down and dirty with their partners, the lack of standard kissing animations is confusing.
One would think that Baldur’s Gate 3 would think about this since its character creation tool is so in-depth. The fact that players can even create a gnome should mean that they can kiss these shorter characters.
It could be argued that this shows the lack of romantic depth this RPG has. Most of the Origin Characters players can recruit are your typical tall beings people associate with these games. Not having these characters kneel or pick up the player’s shorter avatar feels like a misstep, given how much freedom is offered.
Remember that Baldur’s Gate 3 lets players choose what their genitalia looks like, from dongs to clams. The fact that players can rawdog shapeshifters in bear form shows just how imaginative these developers can be. With updates coming to fix the game, this issue could get rectified.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available on PC, with the PS5 version coming out on September 6.
