Shadowheart may be the best thing to be added to video games in decades, but a new Baldur’s Gate 3 custom companions mod allows you to replace your beloved Shart with your own foul creations.

The Full Custom Companions mod from creator “adriant1978” allows you to replace every in-game companion with a custom character. Working on the latest Patch 5 update, the mod lets you run around the world of the Forgotten Realms with your own party.

The Baldur’s Gate 3 mod replaces the scripted companions with characters that act like the game’s Hirelings. You’ll be able to set appearance, skills, as well as a handful of custom spells that are new to the role-playing video game.

Unfortunately, the custom parties do suffer from the same restrictions that hirelings do, namely the fact that they can’t be spoken to or have dialogue sequences in the game’s narrative. In this sense, only your player character Tav is really present in the game’s story.

Of course, one of the reasons why Baldur’s Gate 3 is so brilliant is because of the depth of its custom characters, as well as the fact that they’re all hotties. From the tortured soul and hot vampire Astarion to the tortured soul and hot infernal Karlach to the tortured soul and hot half-elf Shadowheart, everyone is a pleasure to be around.

Nevertheless, even without companions, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still an absolutely brilliant game if you’re running around on your lonesome. Even the game’s NPCs are engaging whereas most games would rather have them as set dressing.

While I’m much more interested in running around the stunning world of Baldur’s Gate pining for my companions who aren’t even real, I can certainly see myself going for a run with a full party of custom freaks. Well, if the character creator lets me actually create some freaks. (It’s a great character creator, but it does lean heavily towards attractiveness.)

Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently out on Xbox Series, PlayStation 5 and PC. No DLC expansion for the RPG is planned, but developer Larian Studios is already working on its next, somehow even more ambitious project. It might take many years to see, but we’re already very excited.
