Baldur’s Gate 3 is an RPG that’s going to have a healthy amount of romance and sex. Thankfully, “healthy” can also be used to describe the actors’ experience mo-capping the game’s more intimate moments.

Jennifer English and Devora Wilde, who play Shadowheart and Lae’zel respectively, talked about their experience working on the RPG with BBC. When it came to the game’s sex scenes, there were specially trained intimacy coordinators to make things less awkward.

"I never felt 'yuck' in a recording session at all. And I've got quite a low 'yuck' threshold,” English told the website.

Knowing that there were professionals to make sure everything went smoothly is always a good thing. Considering how Baldur’s Gate 3 lets players be free with their sexual organs, this could have been difficult. Although, one does have to wonder how they were able to motion capture the raw dogging of a bear.

With the current strikes against Hollywood going on, it was pointed out that the game was a solid gig for these actors. Due to the number of hours needed to record dialogue and motion capture actions for all the player choices, this ended up being a years-long project. Obviously, that makes a ton of sense since there are 17,000 endings to get.

Overall, this seems to be another win for how Larian Studios is handling the development of Baldur’s Gate 3. Granted, we don’t know the working conditions for this RPG yet but there’s no denying that all of this effort for a niche game genre is impressive.

The game is an anomaly in AAA games as it worked out most of its kinks on Early Access and many players loved their time with the beta. Proudly proclaiming 170+ hours of cutscenes for a niche RPG also shows plenty of confidence from the studio.
