Activision Blizzard admits that Diablo 4 Season 1 isn’t fun angry character

If you have not been having much fun in Diablo 4, the latest community address by Blizzard should come as no surprise. Talking about Season one, associate community management director Adam Fletcher explained quite directly: "we know it is bad, we know it is not fun." Talk about being candid.

Fletcher continued wanting to explain "what we were trying to achieve specifically with this patch, and [...] the changes that players ended up seeing". He also goes on saying the team is not planning on "doing a patch like this ever again. We have most definitely heard the feedback from the players on that front [...]".

Later, associate game director Joe Piepiora and director Joe Shely also talk and they continue the tone of saying sorry to players. They explain how the actual patch's objective was trying to prevent outlier abilities and affixes from creating balance problems within the game.

The associate director mentions how the endgame content is really the main driving force behind many of the problems felt by players, such as the top builds being overly strong.

The team also explained the direction for future updates, mentioning several pillars they will follow. These would be, for example, a variety of builds that will be optimized across the different classes, new items and powers to be rotated each new season, and evolving endgame content to challenge even the strongest build.

Overall, the final objective by the team for all future updates is simply making the game more fun for the players. Shely explains, "if the game is not more fun for players, [...] then we're not accomplishing our goals". It is all about trying to balance the Diablo IV changes which are introduced for the short term, versus those which are going to work best in the long term and for endgame.

Whether you believe the apology to be honest or not, it seems the team is well aware of the problems and is working towards making them better for the players. Who ever said designing hell was easy?
