TikTok No Internet Connection: How To Fix The No Network Connection Error

TikTok No Internet Connection: How To Fix The No Network Connection Error

Experiencing the TikTok no internet connection error can be frustrating, especially when you're in the mood to watch the latest TikTok trends or create a TikTok Duet.

Like being promised your favourite flavour of ice cream when you get home, only to find that there was no ice cream. Yet another promise broken by your government, whoever they may be.

But rather than feel compelled to riot because TikTok is not working for you, why not just figure out how to fix it? And maybe buy some ice cream of your own. We'll help with the first part of the equation.

How to fix TikTok no internet connection error

There are a few different messages that all essentially mean the same thing. Whether you see a 'no internet connection', 'no network connection', or even an 'unstable internet connection', you can still try these solutions. And if the universe is in balance, one of them will fix your issue.

Check the TikTok servers

Start off by making sure the problem is at your end, rather than an issue with the TikTok servers. You can go to DownDetector and see if other users are also experiencing the issue.

Also, you can check @TikTokSupport for updates on any potential issues at their end. If there is a known issue, you may need to wait until that has been resolved before trying to get back online.

Consider a VPN

Alternatively, if there is an issue with your local server, then you might be able to get around it by using a VPN. A VPN will connect to a server in a different location. A different server may not be experiencing the same issues as the server local to you. So it's worth trying.

Likewise, if you are already using a VPN, you can try disabling it to connect to your local server and see if this resolves the issue.

Restart TikTok

The classic trick of turning something off and then turning it back on again. This will refresh the connection between your app and the network and may be all you need to do to fix the error.

Check for updates

Another classic, tried-and-trusted method, is to check for updates for both your app and the device you are using. Sometimes, if one has been updated and the other hasn't, it can lead to problems. So if you see any pending updates, get them installed, and then try again.

Refresh the network connection

If you've established that the issue isn't at the TikTok end, then it's worth checking your own network connection for issues. So try a different app to see if that's going online properly. You can also try switching to a different network, for example going from WiFi to cellular data.

Alternatively, try restarting your router, and allow that to refresh its own connection to the internet.

Clear the App cache

It's also possible that the TikTok no internet connection error is caused by an issue with the app cache. Apps will store data in an effort to speed up loading. But over time, it's possible for the cached files to become corrupted. Clearing the cache will rid the app of any misbehaving files.

On an iPhone, the only way to do this is by deleting the app, and then reinstalling it:

  • Find the TikTok app icon on your Home screen or in the App Library.
  • Tap and hold your finger on the TikTok icon until a menu appears, or all the apps start to jiggle.
  • Press Remove App, or the minus sign at the top-left corner of the icon.
  • When prompted, confirm that you want to delete the app.
  • Reinstall TikTok, and log back into your account.

You have a different option on an Android device though:

  • Open Settings.
  • Tap the Storage heading.
  • Select Apps to see a full list of installed apps.
  • FindTikTok and select it.
  • Tap the Clear Cache button.

Your last Resort

If none of these solutions works, then it's worth contacting the TikTok Support team we highlighted earlier on Twitter. Or you can reach them via the Help Center on their website.

In the meantime, you can also try to watch TikTok without the app - the web version. But hopefully, you won't need to do this after trying our suggestions.
