Is Rust on PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, PC, Stadia or Mobile? When is Rust coming to console?

Following its launch in December 2013, Facepunch Studios' Rust has remained among the best-selling and most popular games on Steam, recently reaching its peak all-time player count of 244,394 concurrent players in January 2021.

Given this popularity, it's no wonder that non-PC players want a piece of this survival action, or just want to see what the fuss is about.

Is Rust on PC?

Yes!

Rust first launched in Early Access on Steam over seven years ago in December 2013 before its official full release in February 2018. During this time period, Facepunch has sold 9.5 million copies of Rust, according to data from late 2020.

Rust is only available from Steam, meaning that if you are a dedicated Epic Games Store user wanting to play Rust, you will need to make the switch to Steam.

Is Rust on PS4 or PS5? When will Rust come to PlayStation?

At the time of writing, Rust is unavailable on the PlayStation line of consoles, as it is a PC-exclusive. However, this is set to change.

As announced in late 2019 at Microsoft's XO19, Rust is coming to consoles. The console edition was set to launch in 2020, but the year passed with little updates on the state of Rust's port, which is being made by Double Eleven - a studio created by former Rockstar developers now based in Middlesborough.

In December 2020, Facepunch provided its annual summary in which it discussed Rust's console port. "The console version didn't get released in 2020 like we'd hoped," said Garry Newman, Facepunch's CEO. "The good news is that we're 100% confident that it'll be released in 2021."

Newman said that he is "50% confident" that the console edition will launch in the first half of 2021, and "25% confident" that it will release in Q1.

Double Eleven also commented, stating that the shift to working from home amid the COVID-19 pandemic "presented challenges" to development.

As for the PlayStation 5 version, there has been no mention of a next-gen version specifically, but given the PS5's backwards compatibility, you will be able to play the PS4 version of Rust on the PS5.

Is Rust on Xbox One or Xbox Series X? When will Rust come to Xbox?

As with the PlayStation consoles, Rust is currently unavailable on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Rust - Console is set to launch sometime in 2021 following its delay from the initial 2020 release date.

The console version will likely also be available on the Xbox Series X via Smart Delivery/backwards compatibility, but we are unsure as to if there will be any next-gen upgrades.

Is Rust on Nintendo Switch?

With the Nintendo Switch continuing to dominate the console market, a Rust: Nintendo Switch Edition could certainly be a lucrative move for Facepunch.

However, it does not appear there are currently any plans for a Nintendo Switch version of Rust, with the focus being on the console release for PS4 and Xbox One.

This does not mean that Rust will never release on the Nintendo Switch, with previous PC-only titles such as Ark: Survival Evolved, Subnautica and Minecraft also releasing on the console.

Is Rust on mobile? Can I play Rust on Android or iOS?

Rust is currently not available to play on Android or iOS devices, at least not officially.

As with a potential Nintendo Switch version of Rust, much of the focus on Rust is currently on its console port. A mobile version is not out of the question, but it could be a long way off.

Rust does have some support on mobile devices via the Rust+ app. This app allows you to communicate with your teammates, explore the map, set off your traps, and will also alert you to raids.

Is Rust on Google Stadia?

Rust is not currently available on Google Stadia, but Facepunch is actively looking into supporting the cloud streaming service.

The ticket for Google Stadia support on Rust's website was updated to 'Researching' by CEO Garry Newman two years ago. We have yet to receive any further updates on potential support, but this is better than nothing, right?
