Insomniac’s upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine game will have hardcore violence fans have been begging for. The Spider-Man developers’ upcoming superhero game will feature the blood, guts, and dismemberment fans associated with the character’s adamantium claws.

According to insider Jeff Grubb (via The Gamer), Insomniac is hoping to get an R-Rating for the game. For games, that will probably be an M for Mature rating, which will give the company more freedom when it comes to violence. Wolverine has knives in his hands after all and it would be weird to not have blood.

Grubb says that the decision to have blood and gore in Marvel’s Wolverine is to differentiate it from the Fox X-Men movies. The insider also claims that this iteration of the character takes place before Logan joins the X-Men, which explains his violent streak.

One thing that fans are probably curious about is if the game will be open-world, similar to Insomniac’s acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man. Apparently, that won’t be the case, though there will be several open areas for the character to explore. Since Wolverine can’t web swing, we don’t mind this decision, if it proves to be true.

It’s worth noting that the last solo Wolverine game fans played was X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition on 7th generation systems. Despite being tied to a bad movie, that game delivered on all of the violence fans want from a Wolverine game. Another fun feature was the healing factor, as Logan could get so bloody that we could see his insides before they heal.

Hopefully, Insomniac gives Wolverine the same treatment they did for Spider-Man. Having a pre-X-Men story does free the character up from his usual connections and they can always tie it back to them later. Let’s also hope that Insomniac gets some great costumes for the guy because he has some of the best in Marvel Comics.
