Assassin's Creed Valhalla PS4 vs PS5: What will the differences be, and which version should you buy?

It's crazy to think that we've now received the twelfth instalment of the Assassin's Creed franchise, ever since its debut in 2007.

Most of us remember the first storyline with Desmond, and the odd first-person moments set in the 'present day' of 2012, but three games in, Ubisoft decided to conclude that and have new Assassins in many different eras.

From Egypt to Greece, the series has seen its fair share of locations. With Valhalla releasing in the fall of this year, all eyes are on how this instalment runs on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

With that, here's a quick rundown of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, and how its release is similar to Black Flag.

A Merry Viking

Almost seven years ago, players were finding themselves with a similar dilemma that others will find with Valhalla; which console to buy it for.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag was released on both the PS3 and PS4, with some graphical improvements to boot; especially the water. Which was useful, as the game would have you on ships from time to time.

The following year would see 'Unity' released, but only on next-gen consoles of the time. It does make us think that a similar release could appear here.

But keep in mind; the landscape of 'Valhalla' compared to 'Black Flag' is huge, so this is where the features of the PlayStation 5 come in.

Which Assassin's Creed Valhalla version is better?

When you factor in other features of the console, such as the haptic features of the DualSense and the 3D Audio, you will be in for a next-gen experience that could wipe the floor with what occurred with 'Black Flag'.

A 120 FPS 'Valhalla' experience is a step too far to expect it for this release. But given that a 4K resolution is now expected by all PS5 owners, Valhalla doesn't disappoint in looking truly stunning on the next-gen console, in 4K and 60FPS.

If you need to visualise the differences between the PS4 and PS5 versions of Valhalla, check out this video below by the YouTube channel PC Games, which, despite its name, compared the PS4 and PS5 versions of the latest Assassin's Creed game.

Overall, if you're planning to buy a PS5 at some point in the future, there's no harm in buying Valhalla for the PS4 first, and continuing on with the game when your PS5 eventually arrives with Ubisoft's free cross-gen upgrade.
