Amber Heard cut from DC contract amid domestic abuse allegations

The ongoing defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard continues to reveal a number of details surrounding the couple. Alongside personal details of the celebrities, the fiasco confirmed that Heard’s role in Aquaman 2 has been significantly cut.

While this is unsurprising, especially as fans have been petitioning for Amber Heard’s role as Mera in Aquaman 2 to be cut, Warner Bros and DC have also made more cuts. As it turns out, Heard has been cut from her contract with DC.

Heard no longer has a DC contract

During her Tuesday testimony (covered by Cosmic Book News), Heard confirmed that her contract with DC is no more. In her testimony, Amber Heard explained that she will no longer work for DC.

"They released me from my contract and I've fought to stay in it," the actress said.

The actress also revealed that she doesn’t know how much of Mera will be in Aquaman 2 or if her character will make it to the final cut. She continued:

"As I said, I don't know if I will even be in the final cut or how much I will be. It was difficult to stay in the movie."

Mera will have less screen time in Aquaman 2

Going into more detail about her lessened Aquaman 2 role, Heard confirmed that she was given a script that reduced her onscreen time in the movie. For example, a scene where Mera fought another character was originally planned but ended up getting scrapped.

"I was given a script and given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that had depicted my character and another character - without giving away any spoilers away - the two characters fighting with one another,” she revealed. “They basically took a bunch out of my role. They didn't… They just removed a bunch.”

This implies that Heard will barely have any presence in the Aquaman sequel if any at all. With Heard’s contract terminated, it might be safe to assume that her character will be killed off in the movie. On the other hand, she just might not appear in the sequel.

Mera’s DCEU future

Prior to the trial, it’s clear that Heard’s Mera character was going to have a much larger role in the DCEU. While Zack Snyder is no longer involved with the DCEU, a scene from his cut of Justice League revealed that Mera would be part of a ragtag group of heroes in a world ravaged by Darkseid and a mind-controlled Superman.

Even if that movie never happens, it would have been safe to assume that Mera was planned for more Aquaman films. If all went well, the Atlantian Queen could've even had a solo spin-off. Well, that's definitely not happening now.
