Spider-Man actor Jacob Batalon begs Sony not to continue franchise

More Spider-Man movies for the MCU are coming and fans are ecstatic. However, while fans are looking forward to a new trilogy of Spidey flicks, some of the series’ actors might have a different say. Jacob Batalan, who plays Ned Leeds, doesn’t want them to continue but not for the reasons fans think.

Batalan quickly became a fan favorite upon his debut, with many hoping he would become the MCU’s Hobgoblin. But why would the actor want to turn down this opportunity?

Jacob Batalan loved the Spider-Man: No Way Home ending

Speaking with Collider, Jacob Batalan revealed that the ending to No Way Home was so good it should be concrete. While he’s aware that Spider-Man will continue forever and ever, Batalan would be okay if it continued without the current cast.

“We all very much were crying, our last day of work. Even at the premiere, we were all crying. It was such a beautiful experience to be a part of, I think for all of us. We started at a very young age, being teenagers, essentially, when we started the first movie,” explains Batalan. “And to really watch the arc of the movies come together and all of our characters come full circle, I would say that it was crazy. It was a crazy thing to read. It was crazy to see Andrew and Tobey in the script. It was crazy to have all the villains in the script. And then, to have it end the way it did, on such a cliffhanger, obviously, everyone wasn't expecting that.”

“I would say that it's such a poignant ending to our movies,” he continued. “It really puts an exclamation on the continuance of Spider-Man, but maybe not with us, and I think that's a great thing. We may not necessarily be a part of it, in the end, but it was a beautiful ride anyway.”

It is interesting to see Batalan with this take as he previously teased being the MCU’s Hobgoblin on social media. Anything can happen in the world of Marvel, hence the Tobey and Andrew cameos, so Batalan should wait and see.

Never the end

Despite wanting the current Spider-Man franchise to end, Jacob Batalan admits he’s open to a return if the idea’s right. For now, it seems that the Ned actor is content with the film’s events but it’s still never say never.

“I feel like actors are the last people to know. I think that people assume that actors are always hiding secrets. I promise you, we don't know anything. But again, if it's the right place, at the right time, with the right group of people that we've been with, I would say, why not?” says Batalan. “But other than that, whatever happens, happens. Really, those decisions are up to the big bosses, the people who sign the checks. We're open to the idea, but we're not hoping for it.”

Fans can check out Batalan as Ned in all three Spider-Man MCU films right now on digital media and Blu-Ray. All three movies are also shown on Disney+ and Netflix, depending on your country.
