Daredevil: Born Again has a lot of Marvel fans talking, even if the 18-episode series is years away from premiering. Many are expecting the show to feature the return of various Marvel/Netflix heroes, and The Punisher is reportedly confirmed.
Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Frank Castle was beloved by many and it would be fitting to see him return here. After all, Bernthal’s Punisher first debuted in Daredevil Season 2 and fans are eager to see how he’s changed since his show ended.
The Punisher returning in Daredevil: Born Again?
Cape Time podcast host Tom Smith claims that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will be returning for 2024’s Daredevil: Born Again series. The original plan was to have Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones but scheduling conflicts changed things, though a cameo is possible.
“Basically Born Again is re-introducing the Netflix characters to the mainstream and they planned to bring in Ritter but there’s a scheduling problem for Born Again,” Smith said on Twitter. “So they needed another Netflix star to fill the role. It’s Jon Bernthal. Wouldn’t be shocked if Ritter cameos tho.”
While it would have been nice to see Jessica Jones return, Daredevil has a more interesting history with Frank Castle. Since the series is going to be 18 episodes long, that amount of time should allow for the development of both characters.
Defenders reunion incoming?
Though it seems that Jessica Jones’ role is reduced, many are hoping for a Defenders reunion in Daredevil: Born Again. Disney+ has 18 episodes to mess around with, which should allow for more time to introduce characters like Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
Kingpin and Daredevil were the very first Marvel/Netflix characters to return in Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home respectively. Now fans want to see The Punisher, Jessica Jones, and more make their official MCU debut after their Netflix shows were undermined.
Daredevil: Born Again is slated for a 2024 release on Disney+ and will run for a staggering 18 episodes.
