As the MCU continues to evolve, some of the original actors end up leaving the brand once their contracts expire. Don Cheadle is the latest MCU actor who might leave, revealing that his Marvel contract is done after Armor Wars.
Like many Marvel actors whose contracts ran out, Cheadle has expressed some interest in staying in the MCU for certain conditions. Will Armor Wars be the last time we see the War Machine actor in Marvel? Or will the studio pay up to keep him?
Is Don Cheadle done with Marvel?
Making an appearance in D23 last weekend (via Variety), Don Cheadle revealed that his current Marvel has recently ended. Rather than leave Marvel for other projects, the War Machine actor says he’s willing to stay if “something sounds fun.”
“I’m done with my contracted years in the MCU, so now, it’s just like, if something sounds fun and I’m presented with it, then yeah, let’s go,” says Cheadle.
Whether the actor wants more creative fulfillment or money can only be assumed, so we’ll wait and see what happens. Though many fans would love to keep seeing Rhodie in the MCU, he might be phased out for newer characters.
Secret Invasion sets up Armor Wars
Though it will be sad to see Don Cheadle go, fans have two more Marvel shows to see him in. Aside from Secret Invasion, which got its first trailer, Cheadle confirmed that the show will be setting up Armor Wars.
“This is a fun one because this sets up what happens in Armor Wars. In the trailer, you see that he’s gonna confront Nick Fury,” explains Cheadle. “He and Fury are gonna go at it throughout this show as far as what they need to do, given what’s happened on this planet at this point. It’s kind of a thriller. It’s a different kind of show than you usually see in the MCU, which is great that we continue to change it up and switch it up. It’s a lot of fun.”
Secret Invasion currently doesn’t have a release date, though Marvel has stated that it’s coming in Spring 2023. Armor Wars also doesn’t have a release date yet but that should clear up when Secret Invasion reaches its conclusion.
