Marvel has announced a Guardians Of The Galaxy video game that will let players take control of Star-Lord. Announced during the Square Enix E3 stream, the video game will let players fight alongside the Guardians.

The narrative action-adventure game is a single player adventure that will take players across the universe in a bid to stop a cataclysmic event that could destroy everything.

This will be the second Marvel game that Square-Enix has published, following the poorly received Marvel’s Avengers which was released last year.

The full Guardians Of The Galaxy team will support Star-Lord in the game, although none of the official actors are reprising their roles, and their are no likenesses.

Gameplay

Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy features hack ‘n’ slash gameplay that looks similar to PlatinumGames or something like Ninja Gaiden.

There will also be narrative decisions for the player to choose, which affects both moment-to-moment gameplay and the overarching story.

The extended gameplay demo showed Star-Lord and the Guardians traversing an alien planet with numerous hostile aliens to fight.

At one point, Drax tries to throw Rocket over a large dangerou chasm. The player can choose whether to allow Drax to do it or stop him.

80s Inspired

Much like the movie and the comics, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy will feature an 80s inspired soundtrack featuring stars like Pat Benetar and Iron Maiden.

Peter Quill’s Walkman will also play an important role during gameplay, with songs activating during certain moves in fights.

This attention to detail on the 80s inspirations hopefully means the development team have pulled lots of inspiration from the comics as well as the films.
