Xbox Series X disc problem: How to fix black screen after putting in a DVD or Blu-ray


If you've put a DVD or Blu-ray into your Xbox Series X console and been met by a black screen, fear not - this is a known issue with the new console, which Microsoft is working on fixing right now.

Other known issues with the brand new consoles have impacted the BBC iPlayer and EA Play apps, neither of which are working properly at the time of writing.

DVD & Blu-ray playback isn't perfect yet

"Some users may insert a DVD or Blu-ray into their console and encounter a black screen," Microsoft has noted in a webpage of 'Known Issues' with the Xbox Series X.

So the good news is that Microsoft already knows about this problem and is working on fixing it ASAP.

How to fix black screen issue when you put a DVD or Blu-ray into your Xbox Series X

Luckily, there is a workaround here, so this issue isn't a fully-fledged 'black screen of death' situation.

As Microsoft notes, "If you are experiencing this, simply remove the disc from the console, restart the console, and then re-insert the disc into the console to watch your disc."
