It's totally understandable that you might want to move the Windows 11 taskbar left. You've just upgraded to Windows 11, Microsoft's latest and greatest version of the venerable operating system. But that upgrade has left you with some uncomfortable feelings. It looks different. It feels different. And the taskbar isn't where you left it.

But rather than embrace change and look to the future, you've decided you want to go back to how things used to be. Stay with what's familiar, and safe. Because change is scary. We get it. So don't fret. Here's how to move the Windows 11 taskbar left.

How To Change The Windows 11 Taskbar

If the position of the taskbar on Windows 11 has caused you to break out in a cold sweat, the good news is that moving it is extremely easy:

  • Right-click on the taskbar
  • Select Taskbar Settings from the pop-up that appears
  • This will take you to the Personalisation > Taskbar screen
  • At the bottom, select Taskbar Behaviours
  • Set the taskbar alignment to Left

Once you've done this, your taskbar will be back on the left-hand side. Back where it belongs. Where it should always have been.

How do you Upgrade to Windows 11?

If you've been thinking about upgrading to Windows 11, but haven't because you didn't like the taskbar sitting in the middle of the screen, this article may have finally persuaded you to take the plunge. But how exactly do you upgrade to Windows 11?

You have a couple of options. Microsoft originally intended to roll out the Windows 11 update to existing users over the course of the next several months. In this case, you would just wait until the update becomes available for your computer. You can easily check by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and then Check for Updates.

But if you've decided you aren't going to wait indefinitely, there is a way to upgrade to Windows 11 sooner. Simply download the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, and it will guide you through the installation process for Windows 11.

If you aren't sure that your device is compatible, you can check the system requirements here. You can also download the PC Health Check App from Microsoft, which will tell you whether or not your device can run Windows 11. And when you finally do have Windows 11, you can put that taskbar on the left.
