Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 Upgrade: Will RDR2 Get A PS5 4K 60 FPS Update Or Remaster, Plus RDR2 PS5 Release Date
Is Red Dead Redemption 2 going to get a makeover? Or do you need to hold your horses?
Red Dead Redemption 2 is regarded as one of the most beautiful games made for the PS4, so it’s perfectly understandable that people are excited at just how gorgeous this game might look on the PS5. But it’s still a question as to whether there is actually a Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 upgrade in the works for the PS5. We know that Rockstar are giving GTA V an update, upgrading and improving whatever they can, for the new generation of consoles.
So if GTA V is getting the treatment, what about RDR2? Is an upgrade version in the works? Will it give us 4k, and 60fps? Will it be remastered, to fully exploit the new hardware? Time to saddle up and find out.
Will there be a Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 upgrade?
At the time of writing, Rockstar have said nothing about a remastered and updated version of RDR2 for the PS5. We know that they are putting a lot of focus into GTA V, with a release planned for later this year. It’s also worth bearing in mind that GTA V was released back in 2013, and was actually available on the PS3 and Xbox 360. So it’s well worth an update.
RDR2 in contrast, was only released in late-2018. So it may well be that Rockstar don’t feel that the time and effort, as well as cost, would be justified at this stage in the game’s life. That’s not to say that an update won’t be coming over the hill in the future. But it does make some sense that they would prioritise an older game, which has more room for improvement.
We can hope that if they get around to it, Rockstar will give RDR2 native 4k and 60fps as a minimum. These would be fairly standard expectations for the new generation of hardware, Indeed, some games are already offering 120 fps, for example Destiny 2, WRC 9, and Borderlands 3.
RDR2 PS5 Release Date
So while it may be little disappointing to know that we don’t a release date for a PS5 version of RDR2, Rockstar are giving us something to look forward to. A remastered and improved version of GTA V, which will contain lots of additional features, is a good start.
There are also many rumours that the team is working feverishly on GTA 6. Rockstar and Take-Two are keeping characteristically tight-lipped. But there is some speculation suggesting this game still won’t be ready until potentially 2024. Which again, would make sense after the investment in the update GTA V. They wouldn’t want to cannibalise sales of that game too soon.
What happens after that, is anybody’s guess. It took 8 years between Red Dead Redemption and RDR2. It’s taken 8 years between GTA V and the remastered version for the PS5. So probably best for us all not to expect anything anytime soon.
