How to watch Disney+ on Nintendo Switch: There is a way!

The Nintendo Switch is a great console for gaming on the go, mixing the power of a current-gen machine with the portability of a handheld. When it comes to watching films and TV on the move, though, it leaves a little to be desired.

The lack of streaming media apps on the Switch means that, despite the advantages that come from its unique, hybrid-style design, it doesn’t hold up as an all-round portable entertainment machine.

So, as well as missing out on streaming services such as Netflix and Now TV, there’s also no dedicated Switch version of the Disney+ app. This app lets Disney+ subscribers watch hundreds of films and TV shows, from Disney animations and Pixar favourites to Marvel blockbusters, the Star Wars saga and a massive library of The Simpsons episodes. There are also some much-anticipated original series set in the Marvel and Star Wars universes, too, such as The Mandalorian and the upcoming WandaVision.

There is, however, a way to fix this omission. Be warned, though: you have to become a bit of a tech wizard to get it to work, and could risk your console’s functionality in the process. If you’re still determined to proceed, here is how to watch Disney+ on your Nintendo Switch…

Install Android OS on Nintendo Switch

If you want to watch Disney+ on Switch, you’ll need to put your modding hat on and install the Android OS on your console.

As ever with this kind of thing, there’s a chance that it could damage your console. So, this isn’t us advising you to do it, merely letting you know that it’s something that can be done.

If you still want to, then you’ll need to follow a few rather excellent guides on the XDA Developers forum.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to install the Android OS to the console itself. This particular thread has a lot of notes on the things that it can do to affect your Nintendo Switch, so make sure you read it carefully.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll want to hop over to a different XDA Developers thread, where they go over how to install Android onto your beloved console. Once again, make sure you pay attention to every step.

Once that’s all done, your Switch will run like an Android tablet. Now all you have to do is make your way to the Google Play store, download the Disney+ app and log in with your subscriber details. Voila! You can now view all your favourite films and shows on your Switch’s little screen.

As this isn’t endorsed by Nintendo, you should be careful – there are a lot of warnings in this piece but we really can’t stress enough that this isn’t a recommendation. However, if you want to do this, make sure you follow the advice given in the threads linked to above.
