How To Fix Laptop Screen Flickering Problems In Windows

Screen flickering is a very irritating problem that many people face. Not to mention the fact that flickering can be distracting, especially when you're trying to concentrate on something on the screen. But don’t worry. We are here to help you fix this problem.

First, make sure that your display drivers are up to date. For that:

  • Press Windows key + X, then select Device Manager from the menu.
  • Select the arrow to expand Display adapters.
  • Under Display adapters, right-click the adapter, then select Update drivers.
  • Choose Search automatically for drivers. It will automatically download and install the latest updates - if any.
  • Restart your device.

If your drivers are up to date and the problem still persists, try rolling back your display driver. To do that:

  • Press Windows key + X, then select Device Manager from the menu.
  • Select the arrow to expand Display adapters.
  • Under Display adapters, right-click the adapter, then select Properties.
  • Select the Driver tab, and then select Roll Back Driver > Yes. If the Roll Back Driver option is unavailable for you, it implies that Windows doesn't have a previous driver to roll back to. In that case, jump to step 3.
  • Lastly, restart your device.

Also, you can try uninstalling your display driver and see if it makes any difference. Here is how to do that:

  • Press Windows key + X, then select Device Manager from the menu.
  • Select the arrow to expand Display adapters.
  • Under Display adapters, right-click the adapter, then select Uninstall device.
  • Check the Delete the driver software for this device option, and then click OK.
  • Finally, restart your device and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

If you are experiencing flickering only while using a particular app or program, just update the app or uninstall and reinstall it to see if it fixes the issue.

Finally, lower and raise the laptop screen repeatedly to see if the flickering is related to movement. If that's the case, there is not much you can do. Take the laptop to an expert technician and get it fixed.
