How to fix Destiny 2 Error Code Beagle: Unreadable Game Content

Is Destiny 2's Error Code Beagle causing you problems? We're here to help.

While Charles Darwin might have benefited greatly from a Beagle, if it happens to you on Destiny 2, it's unlikely to lead to you developing a new theory of evolution. More likely, it will stop you from playing the game that you wanted to play.

So while potentially less historically significant, it still matters. And we are here to help. Read on, to find out what Error Code Beagle actually is, what might be causing it, and most importantly, how to fix it.

What is Error Code Beagle in Destiny 2?

Error Code Beagle has been cropping up recently. While it seems to be most common on the PS5, it has been seen on other consoles as well. It has been linked to a recent Hotfix by Bungie, which was released on 18 May 2021. This is an error that has been around now for quite some time. But it has seen a resurgence since the release of The Witch Queen in February 2022. Users have been reporting that the game crashes with this error code and the following message:

Unreadable game content. A full Destiny 2 reinstall is required.

According to Bungie, if this is the first time you have seen this error, then try to resume what you were doing before the error occurred. If the error repeats, then exit the game, and try relaunching it.

However, if this does not fix the error, then it may require a full reinstallation of the game on your console. Bungie has listed guidance on how to do this for each console here. One additional point they raise is that if you are using an Xbox 360, reinstallation may not fix the issue. It may point to an issue with the hard drive on the Xbox 360 itself. To try to mitigate this:

  • Delete Destiny, download any game demo, and re-install Destiny.
  • Install the game via the Xbox 360 Install To Hard Drive feature, instead of letting Destiny do the install.
  • Disconnect your Xbox 360 Hard Drive and then reconnect it.  This could fix a Hard Drive connection problem.
  • Contact Xbox Support at support.xbox.com

While errors are part and parcel of these vast games, they remain consistently annoying. This is especially true if they seem to crop up when a patch has just been released, which should, in theory, improve the performance of the game. If reinstallation doesn't resolve matters, then it may be a case of waiting until the next patch is released. You can also contact Bungie for additional support.
