How to connect mouse and keyboard to PS5: Does the PlayStation 5 support mice, keyboards and flight sticks?

If you've recently bought a PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition, you might currently be wondering whether they support your mouse and keyboard gaming habits. Or if you're a flight stick person, you might be wondering whether your stick of choice will work on PS5.

After all, the PS4 did support mouse and keyboard, and flight sticks, so it's only logical to assume that the PS5 will do the same. And in this ever-more-connected gaming world, to be honest, it would be weird if it didn't.

Keep on reading, then, and you'll find out what Sony is saying about mouse and keyboard support on PS5, and flight sticks...

Does the PS5 support mouse and keyboard?

In its big FAQ page about the PS5, Sony asked the question, "Can I connect a keyboard and mouse with PS5?"

Sony's official answer to that question looks like this: "Yes, USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice are supported at a system level, though game developers will decide whether to support at a game level."

So you can definitely use a mouse and keyboard with the PS5, which should be handy for typing in passwords and composing thoughtful messages on the console.

And we'd expect certain game developers to support mouse and keyboard players on the console, within their games, but only time will tell on that front. As Sony said, that decision will be made by the individual developers.

How to connect your mouse and keyboard to PS5

It sounds like Sony is only planning to support mouse and keyboard devices that have a USB connection.

In which case, all you should need to do is plug the USB on your mouse and/or keyboard into the console itself - with any luck, the console should recognise the device and you should be able to start using it straightaway.

Will PS4 flight sticks work with PS5?

And while we're on the topic of peripherals, Sony also asked itself this question in the aforementioned FAQ page: "Will I be able to use my PS4 flight stick with PS5?"

The answer to that question will please those of you with a PS4-era flight stick on standby.

As Sony said, "Many licensed PS4 arcade fight sticks should be compatible with PS4 games that are playable on PS5. Please consult with your fight stick’s manufacturer for compatibility questions."
