How to change your NAT type on PS4
Some good news and bad news here. First of all, you can fix the issue - that's the good news. The bad news is it's a little more complicated than just turning something off and on again. So, here's how you do it.
- Access your router's admin page by going to 192.168.1.1 in your web browser of choice.
- Double-check the address on your router or in the manual for it.
- Enter the username and password for your router (which will be listed in the manual or on the router, or you might have already set a password of your own choosing).
- Once you've succeeded in logging in, enable UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) in your router's settings.
- Choose to forward these ports for PS4:
- TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480
- UDP: 3478, 347
- This should set your network to the NAT Type 2, which is what you want for the best results.

What are NAT types anyway?
There are three main NAT types, and they dictate a part of the security on your network. NAT Type 1 is Open, 2 is Moderate, and 3 is Strict.
NAT Type 1 is great if you want full freedom across your network, but comes with the major downside of being incredible unsafe and makes your network very vulnerable.
NAT Type 3 is a little too strict and is likely to make a lot of your issues far worse. It's safe, but in the same way that living in a zorb is safe; which is to say it's impractical.
That's why NAT Type 2 is where you want to be. It allows you the control you need to maintain security while also offering you enough freedom to actually enjoy the internet.
