Phantom Brigade is a turn-based strategy game with a hybrid real-time tactical RPG flavour as well. Gamers have been curious to try and play it on the go, so how does Phantom Brigade run on the Steam Deck?

In the game, you will have to fight, outnumbered and out-gunned, in a desperate war to try and win back your war-torn homeland.

Can we also try and get it back on the go? Let's take a look at Phantom Brigade Steam Deck performance and see.

Phantom Brigade Steam Deck performance

While it is entirely possible to run Phantom Brigade on the Steam Deck, the developers have not yet optimised the title to do so. This means you might expect, at the lowest possible graphical settings, no better than 20-25 FPS. Also, there is no support for Steam Deck controllers at the moment.

Gamers have also reported that cutscenes seem to run quite poorly and the UI does not scale properly, so it might be hard to see things.

Improving Steam Deck performance with Proton GE

In order to improve things, we recommend you install Proton GE, which is unofficial but might help you have an easier time with Phantom Brigade. Here's how to do it:

  • Hold down the Steam Deck power button then select "Switch to Desktop" to enter the Desktop mode;
  • Run "Discover app store" and search "ProtonUp-Qt"
  • Launch it, then select "Add version" with "Proton GE";
  • Launch Steam;
  • From your library, select the game, press Compatibility and check the "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" box".

While this won't fix all problems, it will allow you to have an easier time with it.
