Despite a few years of backlash and community uproar, Nvidia is set to release the Super versions of some 40-Series graphics cards, according to leaks, like the 4080 and 4070 Super. The company already has the top spot for arguably the most powerful GPU ever with the 4090, but if the rumours are true, Nvidia's aggressive strategy could very pay off against AMD's recent GPUs.

As rumours suggest that Nvidia may discontinue some of the 4000 Series cards for the new and improved Super models, here's everything you need to know before you spend a lot of money on a new graphics card.

Nvidia 4080, 4070 Super release date estimate

According to the Board Channels forum (thanks to ITHome), the release date for the Super versions of the 4000 Series cards are:

  • RTX 4070 Super - January 17, 2024
  • RTX 4070 Ti Super - January 24, 2024
  • RTX 4080 Super - January 31, 2024

According to the rumours, the release dates for the cards will be announced at the upcoming Nvidia's keynote at CES 2024 on January 8. We'd also expect to find out the official RRP for each of the cards, however, it is likely that respective manufacturers such as ASUS or Gigabyte may offer different pricing.

Nvidia 4080, 4070 Super leaked specs

While the specs have yet to be announced by Nvidia itself, leaker Kopite7Kimi on Twitter suggests the following specs for each GPU.

Firstly, the Nvidia 4070 Super is suggested to be using an AD104-350 or AD103-175 chip. The 4070 Ti Super is rumoured to be using either the AD103-275 or AD102-175 chips, while the 4080 Super may have the AD103-400 chip.

However, the leaker also confirmed in the same post that they "still doubt with [the rumoured chips], especially the [4070] Ti Super", which means the official specs could be different. It'll be interesting to see whether the VRAM is different on the Super models, which has been a point of backlash from the gaming community, as many triple-A games require increased VRAM usage and cards like the 4070 only offering 12GB.

Interestingly, the same leaker suggests that all three models will have the same as their non-Super versions, meaning you won't need to upgrade that PSU if you already have a decent one. Not only that, but each of the cards will use the incredible DLSS 3 that Nvidia has been heavily marketing, meaning that purchasing a 40-series card may be a great purchase for the foreseeable future.

Nvidia 4080, 4070 Super leaked prices

According to leaker Moore's Law is Dead on YouTube, the prices for Nvidia's 4000 Series seem very aggressive, likely in an attempt to push back on AMD's market share. The leaked prices are:

  • RTX 4070 Super - $599 - $699
  • RTX 4070 Ti Super - $799 - $999
  • RTX 4080 Super - $999 - $1,249

Considering the standard RTX 4070 GPU was $599 at launch, the upgraded model being priced relatively close isn't too bad of a deal, depending on the official specs. Of course, Moore's Law is Dead suggests that the 4080 will get a price drop if the above prices are correct, however, he suggests that the 4070 is unlikely to go below $549.

The above prices are also likely to be different depending on Nvidia's strategy. If it's not concerned with AMD and Intel's aggressive pricing, Nvidia will likely keep it at a higher price range. However, if it wants to cement its top spot as the market leader, Nvidia could easily pick a cheaper price to increase market share.

That's everything we know about the Nvidia 4080 and 4070 Super's potential release date. You may want to budget for one of the best full tower PC cases, because if the Super cards are the same size as their predecessors, you may need the extra space.
