The main way to get Mechanical Gears is to craft them in Brazier. To do this, you must first progress enough in the game to open the portal to the Provisional Realm. There, find the Provisioner Essence Trader and talk to him to see what he has to offer. Under Refinement, find Brazier and buy its schematic for 15 T1 Essence.

After you place the Brazier on your base, you will need 6 Ingots and 3 Shafts to build it. You can craft both of these materials in Simple Smelter. For Ingot, you need 2 of any Ore, and the Shaft is crafted from 2 Ingots. When you build the Brazier, you will find Mechanical Gears in the recipe list. You only need 2 Ingots for them.

Pay attention that you can also buy Mechanical Gears. This can be done at the Essence Trader for T1 Essence. Although this method is much simpler, it is not recommended to use it often because it is not profitable, and it is better to save T1 Essence for something more important. Moreover, you can find Mechanical Gears by exploring locations in the Provisional Realm. And if you need even more of this material, you can get it by breaking items that are crafted from it.
