If you have been struggling to defeat Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3, fear not – we're here to offer our expert guidance.

Grym, an Adamantine golem, undoubtedly stands as one of the most formidable bosses within the realm of Baldur's Gate 3, boasting an immense health pool that makes the encounter all the more daunting.

But fear not, as this guide is dedicated to equipping you with the insights and strategies needed to defeat Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to defeat Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3

To beat Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must use the environment against it. The best strategy is to lure it to the centre of the forge and pull the lever to slam the Crucible hammer onto it. Just two hits like that and this boss battle will be done.

But that's easier said than done, right? Here is the strategy you should employ to defeat Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • First, ungroup the party and position each one individually on the four circles. Also, ensure a party member stands next to the forge lever.
  • When everyone's in place, activate the lava valve. The companion by the valve should activate it whenever the magma stops to maintain Grym's Superheated state.
  • Now bait Grym into standing on the crucible at the centre of the forge and pull the forge lever to slam the Crucible hammer onto it.
  • Four magma mephits will spawn on the west side of the forge when you smash Grym for the first time. So you need to take them out as well, ideally with ranged attacks.
  • You'll need to repeat this process to defeat Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3 and claim your rewards.

Players can try to defeat Grym without using the forge hammer. You can opt for a strategy involving spells and arrows to bring down Grym. But remember, Grym has 300 health, so the battle will be harder, although you can still win this way.

Tips and tricks on how to defeat Grym

In this battle, there are a couple of essential things to know if you want to win.

First, when you turn the lava valve, the lower part of the forge gets filled with hot lava. The only safe spots are four circular areas, the short walkways that come out from each of them, the mould chamber, and the crucible.

Second, Grym the golem is easy to provoke. It goes after the last creature that hurt it, even if it didn't really do much harm. It will move towards that creature, try to hit it if it's close, and do an extra move called 'Quake' each turn.

Third, keep Grym's Superheated condition on. Without it, the golem is immune to all damage. The flow of magma stops approximately every three rounds, so it's essential to have a companion positioned by the valve permanently, ready to activate it whenever required.
