So, you’ve completed Horizon Forbidden West and you’re looking to stick around with Aloy a little while longer and help her along her quest. Thanks to the Burning Shores DLC, you're able to stay in this fantasy world for a few more hours.

You’ll be placed specifically in a ruined Los Angeles in Burning Shores, and this hazardous island is where you’ll be helping Aloy get around in this post-post-apocalyptic universe.

Before getting to the Burning Shores expansion, you’ll have to indulge in almost 30 hours of gameplay in Horizon Forbidden West, and here’s how to start the Burning Shores DLC. And while you're here, make sure to check out all the gameplay features for PC players in our Horizon Forbidden West PC release date guide. You can also see our piece on the Horizon Forbidden West quest list for guidance throughout your journey.

Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores length

Based on the PlayStation version of the DLC, you’ll get to have an extra six to eight hours roughly with the main story of the Burning Shores DLC. However, if you’re a perfectionist and striving to complete the whole DLC with 100% completion, you’re looking at another 10 hours to obtain this, giving you a total of 17 more hours with Aloy’s latest adventure.

This is fairly similar to Horizon Zero Dawn's sole expansion, The Frozen Wilds, which gave you an extra seven and a half hours with the DLC's story. So, it seems like Guerilla Games has found the sweet spot for expansions.

Interestingly, while Forbidden West launched on both PS4 and PS5 consoles, the Burning Shores expansion was limited to the current-gen console. So, if you own a PS4 and a PC, you may want to pick up a copy of the Complete Edition on your setup.

Of course, this is just based on the PS5 version of the expansion, however, we don't see the PC port of the DLC being much different, if at all. Until we get our hands on the PC version though, this is the most likely length.
