How to move the scuffed rock in Baldur’s Gate 3

To move the scuffed rock, you will need someone with a high strength stat in your party. If you’re playing the game solo and the character you’ve created is lacking in strength, you can get an NPC companion to do it.

Most players have found success moving the scuffed rock with Lae’zel, the Githyanki Fighter who can be recruited at the very beginning of the game. Once you have a character strong enough to move the scuffed rock, simply select that character and have them move it away.

After moving the rock, you’ll find an ornate chest that contains the following items.

  • Harper’s Map
  • Harper’s Notebook
  • Potion of Speed
  • Agate
  • Ruby
  • Gold

The contents of the ornate chest may have slightly different variations with each playthrough, but you should always get both Harper’s map and Harper’s notebook. These two items will lead you to a hidden cache that contains even more items.

Where to find the scuffed rock

The scuffed rock can be found southwest of the Roadside Cliffs waypoint, near the Nautiloid ship crash site. It is also close to where you can find Astarion for the first time.

Once you’re in the right area, you will need to jump off a cliff to get to the scuffed rock, so expect to take a bit of fall damage. It shouldn't be a problem though. After landing, you’ll need to perform a perception skill check to identify the rock, but this is fairly easy to pass.
