Adding powerful characters to your party is a great goal in Baldur’s Gate 3. Shadowheart is one example because she’s a Trickery Domain Cleric - great for buffs and deception spells. Due to the Cleric’s usefulness, many players are asking the question: how to release Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3?

You might also be excited to know that Shadowheart is a romanceable character in Baldur’s Gate 3. Just be careful messing around Shadowheart because she’s a follower of Shar, the Mistress of the Night.

We’ll not delay you anymore. Read this guide further to know how to release Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3. We’ve compiled the important steps for freeing the Tricker Cleric from her Ilithid pod-prison.

How to release Shadowheart

To release Shadowheart from the Mindflayer pod, you need to first access the Nautiloid upper chamber. The Nautiloid is the exotic spelljamming ship of the Ilithid (or Mindflayers), and it contains rooms and pods designed to enslave mortals.

After reaching the chamber, simply follow these steps:

  • Go to the upper-left section of the chamber and approach the pod.
  • Speak to the imprisoned Shadowheart.
  • Find the Elaborate Key and use it to open the nearby chest.
  • Get the Eldritch Rune from the chest.
  • Access the terminal near Shadowheart’s pod and place the Eldritch Rune.
  • Choose “Ilithid Wisdom” and finally free Shadowheart from captivity.

Freeing Shadowheart is a wise move because she can buff your party with combat bonuses and additional protection. Plus, she's quite the good looking character, so that's one bonus we also would not mind to have.

Where to find Shadowheart

In order to recruit her, you have to find her first. Shadowheart should be in one of these three locations: Abandoned Ruins, Beach, and Druid Grove. We advise that you stay on the beach after the Nautiloid crashes because Shadowheart is located just a few steps away from your character.

If you didn’t save Shadowheart from the Nautiloid, you’ll see her in a doorway in the Abandoned Ruins. Meeting Shadowheart this way won’t yield extra approval points.

And lastly, if you didn’t find Shadowheart in the Abandoned Ruins, you’ll meet her in the Druid Grove. She’s just huddled among a group of Druid refugees.
