Naturally, some downtime is to be expected every once in a while, since all servers have to undergo maintenance every once in a while. This also happens with other games such as with the Diablo 4 servers or the World of Warcraft servers.

Let's find out, then, all about the League of Legends servers, if they are experiencing problems and what is going on with their status.

Is League down? Find out!

The last time we had scheduled downtime in League of Legends was on 7 November, as Riot Games prepped the game for the launch of LoL patch 13.22.

Still, that doesn't mean there might be problems in the future, especially depending on the peak times or the number of players, the servers might be slowing down or booting you out of a game.

If you are experiencing problems logging in or any similar issues, then we would advise you to wait before trying again, 10 or 15 minutes might be enough. Also, a good idea might also be of trying to play during non-peak times in your area.

How to check the real-time League of Legends server status

In order to check the real-time League of Legends server status, there are several ways you can go about it.

First and foremost, heading to the Riot Games service website can give you updated information on recent issues or currently ongoing problems.

Still, if you're looking for a more direct source of information, it might be a good idea to also take a look at Down Detector. Using this website you can see user reports regarding server status, in real-time, if anyone is having issues with the League of Legends servers.

If you are noticing a spike in user reports on Down Detector, recently, then that might mean there are some ongoing problems, so perhaps it might be a good idea to wait before trying again.

How long are League of Legends servers down?

Riot games usually has planning downtime for servers, perhaps for maintenance or for releasing the latest patches. Here are the expected durations for each type:

  • Rolling restart: The servers are restarted and typically become available again within 15 minutes. This type of downtime is relatively short.
  • Patch installation: The servers are brought down for 4 to 6 hours approximately. The patches occur early in the morning, just after midnight (Pacific time).
  • Emergency maintenance: This is a regular (but often unannounced) downtime, it happens on Tuesday night (Wed. early morning), at around Midnight EST. Downtime can be usually around 2 to 4 hours.

Therefore, depending on the type of maintenance being performed, the League of Legends servers can be down for as little as 15 minutes for a restart, or for up to 4-6 hours during patch releases or emergency maintenance.
